I was working on a picture when this powerful image invaded my mind, I had to drop everything to sketch this. Of course after the idea was sketched it laid around for awhile, maybe a month or so. I finally picked it up yesterday and completed it.

I was wondering about how America from hetalia would react to getting attacked on 9-11-01 and how would it look if it was in the anime?

Not sure if it should have a warning on it, but I'm going to put one on just in case.

This is a very powerful piece. And for me, it was personal. My mother and I were working in Manhattan on that fateful day; I was working in Midtown while my mother was working blocks away from the World Trade Center. But, that's another story. Anyway, America's reaction is spot-on. The expression of feeling violated and outright vengeful is perfect. The bruises, the blood dripping from his nose, head and split lip, as well as the cracked lens add to the power of the piece. And the saying, "Shit just got real", not only represents America's reaction in this piece, but it also expressed how many Americans felt on that day. All in all, you did a great job in portraying America the way you did.

I really like this. On Hetalia, I find it funny that they avoid the moments in history when he would be out for blood (like 9-11). This sums up the feelings in America that day, and this year the attack on the embassy only makes it worse. I mean, as Americans we were all ready to just kill and destroy half the world while we watched our follow citizens dying like that when they were just trying to earn a living. Heck, some of us still are. I just hope that we do always remember it, and some of the idiots on the web stop making jokes about it (especially if they're from another country) and think about how they would feel if they had family in those towers, or flight 93 (one of the most inspirational things that ever happened in my lifetime), or the pentagon.
Thank you for drawing this piece and posting it.

Pfft, at least nobody was stupid enough to say that s/he was "offended" by this piece and call themselves Hetalia fans at the same time.

That was kinda the reason I wanted to draw this.
I haven't really seen a lot of serious Hetelia fan art
so when I was inspired I just drew this and let it go. c:

Thank you for your comment I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yay! c: Gotta say I'm not much of a fan either. Just watch the occasional episode every once in a while.
But it's the easiest way to personify America and I just had to draw it when I saw little or no "Serious" pictures with Hetelia characters. c:

This is awesome. I was only a toddler when this happened, but I can faintly remember it. This is wonderful.

Besides, who doesn't love a big helping of America?

You really hit the nail on the head with this one! I remember getting the phone call from my mother that morning, and was in disbelief when she said what happened.

I went all white upon seeing it on the news, and it pretty much creeped me out all day long.

I'm on the west coast, and no one I knew was involved, but still...

Excellent job on this!

Nice one! I certainly don't get the reference with the character, but I get the gist of what's going on.

Killer expression and a solid death glare - and I do say I absolutely love the blood, very well done.

On the note of injury - Watch the renderings of your bruising. Stylistically, this image is very graphic, sharp edges, cel-shading, solid shapes. The bruises are smudged/blurred/textured, unlike the rest of the piece. They stand out a bit much.

Overall I think you could've zoomed the camera out just a tad. There's an ever-so-slight tangent formed near the top right, the character's head and the edge of the canvas. In general - try to avoid any sort of tangents, natural/implied lines/shapes that over lap in pieces often add confusion or readability issues.

Nicely done with that text - the SH was quite clever!

Perhaps the bottom right isn't the most ideal placement for the twin towers. The piece is thematically immersed with the twin towers, character or not - the root idea is of 9/11. That being said, it's a good idea to give a large amount of canvas space to a main subject. I understand the character is more the focus - however the building is still a large part. Perhaps if it was behind the character. This would also solve a problem I see with the smoke.

The smoke seems to go under the character's chin (in 3D space) but also be behind the character's hair. I'd say in general, the smoke isn't exactly too necessary. It shouldn't be so exaggerated, perhaps have the smoke blowing off to the other side of the screen.

The last and final thing to keep in mind is your focal point. Your character is staring straight at us - which is great! An audience will often look at what characters/subjects are looking at - it's a way to guide our eye. The character is staring straight at us, so naturally we'll look back. But! The explosion on the bottom right is a bit extreme. That little area has some of the brightest and vivid colors in the whole piece, and they're juxtaposed in a small conglomerate. Having high-contrast values right next to each other is an excellent way to make the audience look at an area. However, if that's not your focal point, it serves as a distraction.

It's not bad - you've got a solid theme and concept. I bet if you drew a few sketches of this image, you could've found a nicer composition. Try doing small thumbnails, simply for placement, before executing your next piece =)

The character is the personification of the USA, as seen in Hetalia Axis Powers.

OMGosh, this is freaking amazing. First of all, I think you have a great compositon balance here with the colors and figures, etc. Second, this is a very powerful image. The Twin Towers billowing smoke and his beat-up face showing determination is excellent. (at least, that's what I get out of the piece. Idk if that's what you were going for. lol)
